Hampton Court + Kensington Palaces, temporary + permanent graphic design

Commemorating 500 years since Henry VIII’s accession, Hampton Court Palace is reinterpreted through the lens of Henry’s marriage to Kateryn Parr: the state apartments are observed and explained, and the protagonists’ stories retold.

Graphic interventions are sympathetic to the period: screenprinting on silk and linens, hand-made paper and gilding on lead. Twenty-four beribboned lime trees were selected and planted; twelve illustrated tablecloths describe the decoration of the Great Hall; and an intimate garden is planted in a formal style, with heraldic beasts and gilded texts. At the heart of the complex, the Council Chamber celebrates Henry’s family life through rarely seen oil portraits and artefacts.
